Bird presented BAR, hissing and clacking at handler. O: Noted blood on L wing - located cracked blood feathers. Continued with intake exam including fundic. Took radiograph. Banded, gave fluids and placed in ICU cage w sibling. ------------- PHYSICAL EXAM FINDINGS ---------------- Mentation: BAR Temp (F): 102.6 Dehydration (%): 3 Resp rate: 50 Neurologic: WNL Head/mouth/beak: NSF Ears: NSF Eyes: See ocular exam. Wings: L wing has at least two cracked blood feathers - most distal crack is closer to base and has caused some blood matting on dorsal/cranial aspect of carpus Legs: NSF Feet: NSF Body: A little thin. Feather condition: In blood. See Wings section for note on L primaries - will likely lose these. Ectoparasites: None seen. Other: Casting material in GI. Radiographic findings: L radius/ulna abnormal - shorter overall than R R/U with possible rotation around joint. Possible R scapula fx. Initial treatment: 30cc LRS in L inguinal. Applied Yellow color band. A: Mostly healthy baby likely suffered impact trauma to L blood feathers after falling from nest with mild ocular trauma to OS retina. Primary concern is for abnormality noted on L wing radiographs - radius and ulna measure slightly shorter than those of the R wing and there may be rotation at the distal end. Will need to monitor progression of bones as baby grows and watch for continuing displacement that may lead to flight deficiency. Difficult to assess accurately as bird was very stressed and squirming for radiographs, will need to take better images. P: rx keto OS, fluids. HF 1/2 clean, 1/2 rodent TID. 3/17: vet check, draw blood for PCV/TS/CBC, collect fecal sample, retake radiographs with skyline of each wing.
